The Wine Cabinet
is working to create a unique retail offering: a gathering place that will provide fine wines by the bottle, cooking demonstrations, culinary tools and antiques and unusual implements of civility in an atmosphere of casual elegance. There is a place between the big “box stores” and the small wine shops where good value, excellent knowledge, and discerning selection meet with professional business management to create shops of extraordinary taste and ambiance.
We use the most current electronic and traditional marketing tools to search out the increasingly discerning consumer near their home and provide a convenient place of business that does not
requirelong drives or long lines. More importantly, their needs will
be anticipated and their loyalty will be cultivated.
The highest attention is placed on the selection of associates who are committed to our culture of service excellence and who will be trained in the detail of meeting consumer needs in a proactive way.
Great value in the selection and pricing of wines, food and giftware is at the heart of our customer contract. We may not have all of the wines immediately available, but we will have a good wine at the right price for every budget and every palate.
The principals of the business bring over 50 years of experience in the service and hospitality industry with a leader in both innovation and execution. They have not only succeeded, but they have excelled.

Andrea Cooper : Andrea's first career was in ballet as a soloist with The National here in DC. After reaching the mandatory retirement age of 29, Andrea devoted herself to instruction at local studios and universities, including Georgetown (what the heck's a Hoya?). Her love of fine arts, travel and fine dining led her and husband, Ed, into oenophilia. Over the last 15 years, they have traveled to learn and learned to collect (spilling over from their cellar to encompass any free space adequate for proper storage of the relished goods). Andrea has happily stoked these fires in the retail wine trade for the last 6 years. Andrea is exceptionally knowledgeable about Bordeaux and California wines, but her palate and nose are reaching legendary status!! We are excited and appreciative that she has chosen to join us and bring her humor and good sense to our efforts at The Wine Cabinet.

Holly Falk joined us at about the same time as Andrea Cooper with similar experiences in the retail wine industry. Holly is a Potomac Falls resident with her husband Doug and her two children. She spent several years working in Great Falls in retail wine sales before having her youngest child and is glad to be back in the business now. Holly worked for many years in Information Systems specializing in breaking software!! She not only brings that orderly mind to the pursuit of great wines and vintages, she also has a great memory for the flavors and aromas of the wines that she has tried. Originally from California (wine must be in her blood) we are as pleased as we can be to have her as an associate.

David Mackie is a key part of the staff as well as a member of the family. He has attended Florida State University and is preparing for a career in the cinematography industry at The Art Institute of Washington. While having no experience initially, Dave has absorbed all of the information the rest of us have available as well as being the chief research associate in the shop. Many of the ratings and tasting notes that you see have been pulled together through Dave's efforts. Dave has also proven to be a valuable resource on the quality and variety of beers that we offer as well as being the harbinger of those that will become customer favorites. Dave's easy manner and warm smile have made him a favorite of our clientele.

Kate and Jane I can't list them separately, they always seem to be together! Our wives are the motive force behind the shop design and the buying of the unique giftware and foodstuffs that we display in the shop. If we had to segregate them, Kate is the creative display genius and Jane is the organizing whirlwind that leaves no detail undone. They are in the shop when we need them most and in our hair constantly about how we can serve you better than we have.

Rande Jenus retired from Marriott International in April 2003 after 20 years of experience in the highly customer–oriented front office and operations areas. Rande is a native of Newton, MA and an occasional Red Sox fan (when they win). Rande brings a broad knowledge of big red wines and a willingness to tolerate white wines that customers like (his favorite saying – “every white wine wishes it was a red”). Cabs, Bordeaux, Italian all bring a smile to Rande's face. Rande is completely committed to the Reston community and plays a big role in the Chamber of Commerce and various other community undertakings. Rande missed Reston so badly after he moved to California that he moved back!!

Mike Mackie retired from Marriott International in January 2001 after 30 years with the company. Mike was responsible for staff support throughout the world, including Food & Beverage. Mike traveled extensively and his lifelong love of wine was enhanced by his exposure to the many varieties all over the world. His favorite is Pinot Noir in all its many forms, but the pairing of food and wine is his true love. A Washington, DC native, Mike has the most fun suggesting a good match for a new menu or designing a menu around a selection of wine!!
