The Wine Cabinet is working to create a unique retail offering: a gathering place that will provide fine wines by the bottle, cooking demonstrations, culinary tools and antiques and unusual implements of civility in an atmosphere of casual elegance. There is a place between the big “box stores” and the small wine shops where good value, excellent knowledge, and discerning selection meet with professional business management to create shops of extraordinary taste and ambiance.

We use the most current electronic and traditional marketing tools to search out the increasingly discerning consumer near their home and provide a convenient place of business that does not
requirelong drives or long lines. More importantly, their needs will
be anticipated and their loyalty will be cultivated.

The highest attention is placed on the selection of associates who are committed to our culture of service excellence and who will be trained in the detail of meeting consumer needs in a proactive way.

Great value in the selection and pricing of wines, food and giftware is at the heart of our customer contract. We may not have all of the wines immediately available, but we will have a good wine at the right price for every budget and every palate.

The principals of the business bring over 50 years of experience in the service and hospitality industry with a leader in both innovation and execution. They have not only succeeded, but they have excelled.

Make every day an occasion at The Wine Cabinet!

Kate Mackie

Kate has been a part of The Wine Cabinet from its inception. Kate does all the giftware buying and merchandising. Born in Augusta, GA, her southern heritage shines through frequently in her recipes and serving pieces. Her unerring sense for what is going to be hot next makes stopping by to check out her selections an important regular errand. She always has time to stop and chat and while she won't take any credit for it, she has an exceptional nose and palate for wine.

Holly Falk

Holly Falk is a Potomac Falls resident with her husband Doug and her two children. She spent several years working in Great Falls in retail wine sales before having her youngest child and is glad to be back in the business now. Holly worked for many years in Information Systems specializing in breaking software!! She not only brings that orderly mind to the pursuit of great wines and vintages, she also has a great memory for the flavors and aromas of the wines that she has tried. Originally from California (wine must be in her blood) we are as pleased as we can be to have her as an associate.

David Mackie

David Mackie is a key part of the staff as well as a member of the family. He has attended Florida State University and is preparing for a career in the cinematography industry at The Art Institute of Washington. While having no experience initially, Dave has absorbed all of the information the rest of us have available as well as being the chief research associate in the shop. Many of the ratings and tasting notes that you see have been pulled together through Dave's efforts. Dave has also proven to be a valuable resource on the quality and variety of beers that we offer as well as being the harbinger of those that will become customer favorites. Dave's easy manner and warm smile have made him a favorite of our clientele.

Nancy Adornato Originally from the New York City area, Nancy brings a joy in daily living and in meeting people that is infectious. She has lived and traveled extensively in France and takes every opportunity to return. Her sense for food pairings and balance in wine is exceptional. She is a big support to Kate in the giftware and basket work. Married to Peter these many years, they enjoy exploring good restaurants and always manage to unearth wine gems when they travel.

Rande Jenus

Rande Jenus retired from Marriott International in April 2003 after 20 years of experience at both the unit, regional and corporate level. Traveling extensively with Marriott while enjoying unique and fine dining experiences, he always dreamed of opening a service oriented fine wine shop in the Reston community Yes, he really publishes his cell phone number on Thanksgiving in case one of his neighbors has a "Wine Emergency"!.

Born just west of Boston, Massachusetts he is an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins fan that has been known to “verbally play” with the Yankee fans that dare to enter "The Wine Cabinet". He cherishes his time with his two children, family and friends; he also enjoys fine dining adventures. Rande is completely committed to the Reston/Fairfax community and plays a big role in the Chamber of Commerce, local charitable events and various other community undertakings.

Rande has an abundant amount of wine experiences and knowledge. He especially enjoys big red wines i.e. Cabs, Bordeaux, New World Blends and massive Italians. Since the shop opened he has grown to love and appreciate Pinot Noir’s, especially from Oregon. This can be seen by the recent growth of this silky and deceptively powerful varietal in his personal cellar. Rande lives and loves the Reston dream while serving the community one bottle at a time!

Mike Mackie

Mike Mackie retired from Marriott International in January 2001 after 30 years with the company. Mike was responsible for staff support throughout the world, including Food & Beverage. Mike traveled extensively and his lifelong love of wine was enhanced by his exposure to the many varieties all over the world. His favorite is Pinot Noir in all its many forms, but the pairing of food and wine is his true love. A Washington, DC native, Mike has the most fun suggesting a good match for a new menu or designing a menu around a selection of wine!!
