The Wines!!

Couillaud Le Jardin Chardonnay 2015 $12.99

This Chardonnay is produced by the Couillaud Family at the Cha^teau de la Ragotie`re a few minutes from the Atlantic near the mouth of the Loire River, where the maritime climate is ideal for producing whites that are refreshing and bright. The Couillaud age most of this wine on its lees until bottling to add weight and texture. Saveur magazine wrote about a previous vintage: “This value-priced chardonnay tastes crisp and bright. It comes from the western Loire Valley, an unexpected place for this Burgundy grape variety, and is made in a fresh, unoacked style, nothing like the famed (and costly) Burgundy crus. Though unconventional, it’s delicious, with fruit flavors that echo pears and apples, and an enticing hint of minerality beneath the surface.”

Chevalier Muscadet “Cotes de Grand Lieu” 2015 $16.99

Éric Chevalier is a rising star in the Nantais of the Loire Valley. For ten years, he sourced fruit for a large négociant in the Touraine.  In 2005, he decided to return to his hometown of Saint-Philbert de Grandlieu, just southwest of Nantes, and ended up taking over the family domaine, Domaine de l’Aujardière, the next year. EĀ“ric sustainably farms twenty-five hectares of vines, producing wines of great character and finesse. He found his future in his family’s past.

Brunier Le Pigeoulet Rouge 2014 $20.99

80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Carignan
The Brunier Family has been farming the land for four generations. The original family behind the estate, Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe located in Chateaneuf-du-Pape has been a benchmark wine for several decades. The newest generation, Frederic and Daniel Brunier, have worked hard to solidify the legacy left by their father, Henri, and their grandfather, Hippolyte. They have brought their intricate knowledge of the various terroirs of the Southern Rho^ne to new heights through the expansion of the holdings. Their properties represent a vast variation of soil types, climatic conditions, and grape varietals. Le Pigeoulet assembles fruit from both the Co^tes-du-Rho^ne and the Co^tes-du-Ventoux

Domaine Fontsainte Corbières 2014 $16.99

60% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah
The first vineyards at Domaine de Fontsainte, in the Corbières appellation, were planted by the Romans. Artifacts found in these vineyards, such as an old coin dating from the time of Marcus Agrippa in 25 A.D., are a testament to its antiquity. The original domaine was built around a thermal spring, which was later named for the local, twelfth-century patron saint, Saint Siméon; hence Fontsainte—the saint’s fount. The family has been making wine here since the seventeenth century.

Domaine Durban Beaumes de Venice Rouge 2015 $19.99

70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre
To walk through the high-altitude vineyards at Domaine de Durban is to walk through an astounding span of history. On the site of a former Roman healing springs destination, a mere handful of soil reveals well-preserved, ancient Roman roof tiles and medieval pot shards. The domaine and its vineyards sit atop a picturesque plateau in the Vaucluse, sheltered by the Dentelles de Montmirail, just above of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise. Jacques Leydier bought the property in the 1960s when the farm had fallen into disrepair. Today, his grandsons, Henri and Philippe, are running the domaine. This magical spot has assumed a higher purpose today, producing some of the most memorable wines of the Southern Rhône.
