No French Tariff Tasting II
with Liz Liz Van Wazer

Monmousseau Vouvray 2018
These vineyards between Tours and Blois have existed since the Roman occupation. Since the 14th century, wines coming from the Vouvray region were present on the French Kings' tables. Monmousseau winery dates back to 1886.
Vouvray is almost universal when it comes to food pairings. It is best enjoyed as an aperitif. Monmousseau Vouvray also works incredibly well with fish, shellfish, poulty, along with any creamy or spicy sauces.

Albert Bichot Macon-Villages 2018
The first traces of the Bichot family date back to 1214. They settled in Burgundy in 1350, in their fief of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois. The family’s coat of arms has not changed since nor has its symbol, a doe (biche). Tasting Notes: The nose is fragrant with beautiful floral notes (acacia and honeysuckle) against a slightly mineral background. The palate is lively, fruity and floral with a refreshing finish.

Albert Bichot Mogon Les Charmes 2018
Located to the west of the hamlet of Morgon, in the southernmost part of the appellation, the vineyards cover gentle, south-east facing slopes at altitudes of between 350 and 400 metres. The highly eroded soil is very stony, giving this Morgon “Les Charmes” all of the fleshy fruitiness of the great Beaujolais wines, and rich, elegant expression typical of Burgundy wines. Its nose is redolent of jam with nuances of spice and a discrete touch of smoke. It offers tannic structure and lovely fullness with a slight limestone profile. On the palate, this wine features exceptional volume, fleshiness and pleasing length.

Chateau Bellevue Lussac St Emilion 2015
The good-natured proprietor of the Château de Bellevue, André Chatenoud, seems more at home in his cellars than anywhere else.  Though he and his family have owned the property since 1971, the history of the château dates back to at least the 18th Century.  One needs only to explore the incredible limestone caves and see the rich range of old graffiti engravings to be impressed: from harvest workers of the 1700s to American G.I.’s of the 1940s, so many of its visitors have been eager to mark their place in time through the walls of this small yet refined estate The terroir here is characterized by exceptional quality – only surprising because the great, low prices here at Bellevue stand to shift the perceptions of what good Bordeaux should cost.  All twelve hectares of the clay and limestone vineyards are farmed organically and were certified through the French agency, Ecocert in 2002.

Olivier & Lafont Gigondas Rouge 2016

93 Points Wine Enthusiast: “Notes of salt, baked earth and crushed stones act as base notes to this succulent but restrained Gigondas. Aged entirely in concrete tanks, it's subtle and nuanced, suggesting a transparency of black fruit flavors and a deep earthiness that lingers. Ripe, integrated tannins ring the finish. A lovely wine to enjoy now–2030.” ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA
