Each Thursday we open just one bottle of exceptional wine.

One that not only do we think is excellent, but that has received critical plaudits as well.

Usually rated in the 90's, we discount it by 20 - 40%.

A great wine at a great value.

It's what we do to be certain

Every day is a Special Occasion at The Wine Cabinet!!

The best vineyards have historically played a large role in the Spanish wine world: see, for instance, the centuries-old valuation of the top Jerez pagos. But, starting in the mid-19th century, the development of Spain's wines took a different tack when the so-called bodegas industriales appeared on the scene: big négociant-type firms with very large productions of name-brand wines made with grapes –often, bought-in– from different places. In 2000, a group of small producers of single-estate wines from Old and New Castile got together to defend the personality which defines the wines from the best growths and to promote this culture of individuality which was being reborn in Spain. They founded Grandes Pagos de Castilla (Great Growths of Castile). This not-for-profit association became Grandes Pagos de España in 2003, reponding to the requests of many colleagues in other parts of the country who wished to make the single-growth concept better known and to seek excellence through the direct relationship of grower and vigneron.

FINCA SANDOVAL has been a leader in the movement from the beginning and the wines show very adeptlt the commitment to excellence and character that the owners have.

STEPHEN TANZER says 92 Points | International Wine Cellar, November/December 2010 $31; 76% Syrah, 13% Mourvedre and 11% Bobal, planted on chalky soil; aged in 85% French and 15% American oak that ranged from new to three years old) Bright purple. Spicy, highly fragrant nose features perfumed blackberry, violet and orange peel, with hints of smoke and black olive.  Really showing the Syrah now. Dense, sappy and chewy but surprisingly lithe; the intense red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors are at once taut and rich, thanks to zesty minerality. Finishes very suave and long, with fine-grained tannins and lingering spiciness.
