A dense, smoky red, showing a creamy edge to the spicy kirsch, plum sauce and grilled fig notes that mingle with hints of baking spice and medium tannins. Fine length. Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now. 6,500 cases imported. –NW

The 2010 Privada is a blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak for 16 months. It has a fragrant bouquet with dark cherry, crushed strawberry and rose-petals that is well-defined and feminine. The palate is medium-bodied with a honeyed texture: light Asian spices, cumin and thyme that lead to a rounded, slightly viscous finish with good length. Drink now-2017.

Norton formed the introduction for this writer to Argentinean wine during the 1990s. It was founded by Edmund James Palmer Norton who imported and planted French cuttings back in the 19th century. The company now owns five vineyards over Mendoza that includes the original parcel in Perdriel and they continue to produce a reliable portfolio that often represents fine value.

About Bodega Norton........

1895

Edmund James Palmer Norton first set eyes on Mendoza countryside during the construction of a train line that joined Mendoza and Chile. Very impressed by the terroir, he founded Bodega Norton, south of the Mendoza River, with a plantation of vines imported from France. .

1989

The Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski bought Bodega Norton after sensing the great potential of Argentina to influence the world scene. Struck by the beauty of the area and the optimal conditions for growing grapes, he chose Bodega Norton because it was the only traditional winery surrounded by its own vineyard.

.

1991

Gernot Langes-Swarovski’s son, Michael Halstrick, initiated a new phase, aided by significant investments, modernization and growth, that would prepare them for their big international expansion.

During the 90’s Bodega Norton started exporting high quality wines, becoming one of the first wineries to develop export markets.

The People

One of the chief values of Bodega Norton is taking care of its human resources. Not just because its 350 employees are the real potential of the company, but because all of them bring to life the winery and its wine.
This value was recognized in 2010 by the consulting firm Great Place to Work, which ranks the best companies in which to work: Norton was amongst the first companies (ranked 13), and was the only Winery to appear in this ranking.
