The Country Vintner's Spanish Selections

Dibon Cava, Brut Reserva NV $11.99

A Best Value Selection from Wine Enthusiast!
"Light straw in color, this sparkling wine revealed lemon zest, apricot and distinctive minerality on the nose. The mouth feel brought bright acidity along with yeasty, bread dough tastes." Cellar Tracker

Jorge Ordonez Muscat, Botani $18.99

The most internationally valued Spanish dry Muscat's defining features are great elegance, purity of design and minimalist structure. Clipper ships carried the wines from Malaga to Buenos Aires in the late 19th century to great anticipation. Robert Parker has often said it is one of his favourite white wines. Reasons are its uniqueness, exquisite taste and great adaptibilty, as proved by the fact that it is highly appreciated by Oriental food international restaurant sommeliers.

O Fournier Urban, Ribera del Duero 2009 $16.99

"80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Carignan, the former planted circa 1890 and cropped around 20 hectoliters per hectare by hand. It has a sophisticated bouquet of blackberry, cassis, tobacco and undergrowth, hints of lavender emerging with aeration. The palate is full-bodied with fine grippy tannins, a dense core of pure blackberry and cassis fruit infused with orange zest and citric peel to maintain balance. It is long and persistent in the mouth: a classy Chilean performer that matches the price tag. Drink 2014-2022"

Tres Picos Garnacha $16.99

"The terrific 2012 Tres Picos is one of the finest inexpensive, Grenache-based wines made in the world. This full-bodied beauty boasts a deep ruby color as well as loads of strawberry and black cherry fruit, hints of lavender and crushed rocks, sweet tannin, and a broad, savory mouthfeel. It, too, should be consumed over the next 3-4 years" 91 Points WA!

Muga Rioja Reserva $27.99

It is one of the most elegant and complete harvests of recent times. Despite its youthfulness, three and a half years at the time of this tasting, we can already have a sense of the satisfactions it holds in store for us.

In appearance it is a wine with not the least sign of evolution: purplish-red with an even robe and barely translucent.

On the nose it is a harvest which can easily be recognized for the significant difference in its fruit characteristics compared to previous vintages. More of the fruit with pips tan of fruit with stones, accompanied by perfectly ripe red berries. This is all underpinned by hints of mainly white flowers (this is not a normal characteristic of Muga crianza/reserva vines), and a very full spectrum of oaky spices without any one of them clearly dominating. The aromas conclude with subtle hints of toasting and leather.
