Sweetwater Brewery, Atlanta, GA

SweetWater’s roots began back in Boulder, Colorado in the early 90's while Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney were roommates at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

During their time out west, they realized they had more of a hankering for beer than books. Their first step into the profession was washing kegs on the loading docks of a local brewery for free beer. Not a bad job when you’re in college! With all this free beer, their grades went up, their cars got fixed, friends were plentiful and the sun shined a little brighter. Once they were finished with school, it was time to either find a real job, or get serious in the brewing business. Easy choice, right? Freddy and Kevin headed off to the American Brewers Guild in California aka Brewing School to sharpen up their knowledge of “Fermentation Science”! After that they were off and running brewing beer for other breweries around the west coast, learning their craft while keeping the dream of their own place alive.

In the summer of 1996, the energy and action of the Olympics brought Freddy to Atlanta. He found this town in need of a West Coast style brewery and knew that he and Kevin were just the guys to turn the local brewing scene on its ear with the hoppy, aggressive ales they had been brewing for years.

The Wines!!

LINEN White $16.99

The nose is a trip to the tropics with pineapple, mango and a hint of papaya in the breeze. In the mouth the tropical flavors melt into pear, peach and apricot with an undercurrent of zesty citrus. The finish brings it back home with fresh grapefruit and tange-rine notes.

"LOVESTRUCK Viognier $23.99

This stunning Viognier is like a visit to a tropical island! Tasty coconut and macadamia aromas precede an implosion of pineapple, peach and pear. The palate tastes of juicy peaches and tangerines with hints of amaretto in the background. The silky  finish returns to layers of ripe, juicy peaches and citrus..

CALICO Red $19.99

When we taste this wine with others for the first time, the common reaction is "WOW! That is GOOD!" We designed this wine to "over-deliver" in all aspects so that our customer has an incredible well-made and affordable wine for every day enjoyment.  The Calico has power, complexity and just enough smoothness to round out the tannins to give it mass appeal.  Hints of Cedar and Spice pounce on a “Raspcherry” nose. A gentle hint of powdered cocoa leads to broad strokes of dark chocolate and mouth filling blackberry on the palate. The texture is mouth filling and supple. Silky cherry and dark fruit find a smoky, earthy and gentle touch of oak and vanilla on the finish.

WILD CHILD Merlot $31.99

This is our first single vineyard Merlot!  Ripe and juicy, this is a stunning expression of Washington State Merlot.  The nose expresses powdery anise and sweet plums over bright blueberries. In the mouth, layers of blackberry flow through a lovely mixture of dark chocolate and cherry- with just a hint of cigar box in the background.  The finish is long trip to your favorite coffee joint for a cherry mocha expresso.

MOONSPELL Cabernet Sauvignon $31.99

...MOONSPELL, An alluring name and an alluring wine.  Dark deep color with shadows of anise hovering over candied blackberry and deep cocoa on the nose.  Silky cherry spreads on a thick layer of cassis and mixed berry, followed by waves of blackberry and currants that flood the palate.  The finish ripples with anise and bittersweet chocolate on a pond of blue and blackberries.  Irresistable!
