USA! USA!

Presented by special guest Andrew Stover of Siema Wines & Vino 50 Selections

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Andrew Stover dove into the hospitality industry after graduating from George Washington University. Andrew holds a Sommelier Diploma from the International Sommelier Guild and a Certified Specialist of Wine certification from the Society of Wine Educators. In 2009, he launched Vino50, a brand and wholesale wine portfolio, to encourage consumers to explore local and regional wines. Vino50 celebrates all 50 states and Andrew collaborates with wineries in budding wine regions, proving that fine wines can come from states other than California.

Brooklyn Oenology, Shindig Vidal Blanc $16.99

Shindig is a collaboration between Brooklyn Oenology and Vino50, a portfolio of American wines curated by sommelier Andrew Stover.  Stover commissioned this wine from BOE to highlight the wines of New York State.  It is available in stores & restaurants, online and through our distribution partners. Shindig over-delivers as an ideal clean, zippy, fresh white with balanced fruit. There are flavors of citrus, green apple, stone fruit, lemon zest, a little slate and ginger, and a touch of sweetness mingles with refreshing minerality on the finish. With a high acidity level and tropical notes, this wine is reminiscent of a very crisp Sauvignon Blanc, or a mineral driven Gruner Veltliner. The Finger Lakes shines on this wine expressing the crisp, clean fruit and mineral notes indicative of the terroir. A lip smacking , thirst-quenching, food loving wine, Shindig is a perfect aperitif and pairs great with shellfish, sushi, salads, vegetables, fried seafood, BBQ, and any time that a great, refreshing summer sipper might be required!

Bedell Cellars, Long Island White $19.99

Taste White is a North Fork blend made using sustainably farmed, estate grown fruit, fermented with indigenous yeasts. The 2012 vintage produced flavorful fruit with refreshing acidity. Ed McCarthy, the James Beard Award winning Author of Wine for Dummies, said “Taste White, [is] an intriguing blend, a terrific wine with very good depth, richness, and lots of flavor. This year’s blend works!” 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Viognier, 15% Chardonnay, 5% Riesling.

Bedell Cellars, Long Island Red $27.99

Full of dark juicy fruit, Taste Red has ripe and soft tannins complemented by a deep mouthwatering complexity. The vines ripened in 2012, earlier than the historic record, producing flavorful fruit. Thomas Matthews of Wine Spectator said “Ripe, juicy flavors of black cherry and plum mingle with savory notes of dark chocolate and dried herb in this expressive red. Features a solid structure but remains graceful through the spicy finish.” 54% Merlot, 28% Syrah, 9% Petit Verdot, 9% Malbec.

Chateau Grand Traverse Gamay Noir $16.99

Gamay Noir has adapted well to the climate of Northern Michigan producing a lighter-bodied, aromatic, fruity red wine with distinct tart cherry, red plum and black pepper flavors. With four months of barrel aging, it is lighter than traditional red wines making a versatile wine for cheese and breads, grilled salmon, roasted duckling or wild mushroom pizza.
