Miguel A. Torres (born 1941), the current President and Managing Director of Bodegas Torres, is a member of the fourth generation of this family business. He also manages the company’s vineyards in Chile and collaborates with his sister Marimar Torres in California.

In 1957, he started his degree in Chemical Sciences at the University of Barcelona, two years later transferring to the University of Dijon (Bourgogne), where he specialised in oenologyand viticulture. In 1962, he joined the family business, of which he is currently President and Managing Director. Five years after joining the company he married Waltraud Maczassek, a painter and fine arts graduate, who from the very first has collaborated with the company in sales management on the German market. In 1982-1983 he extended his viticulture and oenology studies at the University of Montpellier (France), having taken a sabbatical year.

Miguel A. Torres has published various books about the world of wine. His first book, Viñas y Vinos, (Vineyards and Wines) is currently in its fourth edition in Spanish, revised and updated by Plaza y Janes in 1993 and translated into Catalan, French, English, German, Norwegian, Finnish and Japanese. This first effort was followed by Vino español, un incierto futuro(Spanish Wine, an Uncertain Future) (1979); Manual de los vinos de Cataluña (Manual of Catalan Wines) (1982); Los vinos de España (The Wines of Spain) (1984); Guía Folio de los Vinos de España (Guide sheet to Spanish Wines) (1985); and Els Vins del Penedès (Wines of the Penedès) (1987). The Wines!!

Verdeo Verdejo $14.99

Characterised by its freshness, by pronounced notes of tropical fruit and its elegance.

Young, contemporary and fresh. That's this 100% Verdejo wine, of an attractive pale yellow colour with green tinges.

Ideal as an aperitif, it also goes perfectly with shellfish and fresh fish in exotic sauces. Serve at 8-10ºC.

Beautiful pale yellow colour, flecked with green tints. Characterised by distinct notes of tropical fruit accompanied by citrus and a touch of fennel. Its intense nose adds to its freshness and elegance, with a lingering finish in the mouth, once again noting the green fruit so typical of the Verdejo variety.

Esmeralda White $15.99

In the mountainous area of the Upper Penedès the more delicate and aromatic white grape varieties are grown. Moscatel and Gewürtztraminer form the basis for Viña Esmeralda, an exceptionally delicate and strikingly fragrant wine.

This wine takes its name from the emerald colour of the Mediterranean and is made from the varieties Mosacatel de Alejandría (85%) y Gewürztraminer (15%).

Excellent with shellfish (a sublime match for an avocado and shellfish salad, for instance), as well as with fish, fresh melon with cured Spanish ham, pâtés, poultry or pork in a sweet and sour sauce. Serve at 11ºC.

A voluptuous, exotically perfumed nose, with deliciously well-defined primary aromas (some floral notes, roses, lilies...), complemented by secondary aromas derived from the wine’s controlled fermentation. Silky and sappy on the palate.

Ibericos Rioja $14.99

Ibericos, takes its name from the Iberian Peninsula, a land of lonely oaks and ancient vineyards.

This noble wine from the Torres family, made with the tempranillo varietal, is aged for 12 months in oak barrels and for a long time in the bottle. Thus, the wine speaks to us of the land it comes from and its origins with aromas of forest fruits and spices. On the palate, it speaks to us of the passing of time, smooth, elegant and long.

Serve between 14-16ºC. Owing to the tannic and fruity characteristics, this wine pairs well with a great variety of meat dishes including roasts and game.

Deep red cherry colour. On the nose it reveals notes of black ripened fruits and spicy aromas (cocoa and nutmeg) from the wood. Silky entrance in the mouth with pleasant tannins. Long and spicy aftertaste.

Every weekend we have free tastings of wine and beer that give you a chance to explore the wide world!

Celeste Blue Tempranillo $24.99

Celeste is an opulent wine brimming with fruit, body and colour: as unique as the night sky in the Ribera del Duero.

At 895 metres altitude you can almost touch the stars and shape the clouds. The dusk air is intense with fragrance. And the sun lights up the land in all its splendour. Here, at a height of 895 metres, Celeste is born, the Torres family’s first Ribera del Duero

Serve between 16-17 ºC. Owing to its fruity and tannic characteristics, this wine pairs well with a great variety of meat dishes including roasts and small game.

Intense blackberry colour. Spicy and intense nose, with liquorice and black pepper hints on a base of well ripened fruits (blackberry and cherry). On the palate, very fruity at first with ripened tannins, also persistent and full bodied.
