2013 Côtes du Roussillon Blanc Les Vignes, Bila-Haut (M. Chapoutier) $13.99               Roussillon
Renowned Rhône winemaker Michel Chapoutier bought this property in the Roussillon area in 2000: “Bila Haut” referring to an old farm villa built high in the mountain slopes among the vineyards (Bila = Villa in Catalan).  The 75 hectares of land – cultivated using biodynamic farming techniques – are characterized by steep pebbly slopes.  This blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeu has a nice combination of exotic aromas, spic and smooth mouthfeel, a very sophisticated white, perfect for late summer and fall. All of the wines that Chapoutier produces have labels with both traditional writing and Braille.
Superb with grilled fish, tuna steaks and bouillabaisse.

2012 Bordeaux, Chateau Blouin $13.99           Bordeaux, France
From a a small château located on the right bank of the Gironde River in Arveyres. The wine is made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Fermented with temperature control in both stainless steel and cement vats, then bottled and cellar-aged for 12 months or more.  A classic  right-bank Bordeaux, with plum-ruby color in the glass, Blouin offers meaty aromas of plums, cassis, Belgian chocolate, cigar tobacco, and black licorice. Supple on the attack, the wine’s core of cassis fruit yields to bright acidity, buffered tannins and lovely complex notes of brown spices, tobacco, and star anise. Savory, delicious, and crafted for early enjoyment, it will pair now and over the next five years with London broil, grilled lamb chops, and everyday fare like burgers, meatloaf, and pork chops. The chateau makes about 4,000 cases of wine annually.
Wonderfully versatile, with casual foods or with roasts, steaks or game.

2012 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vielles Vignes, Domaine Jacques Girardin $22.99    Burgundy
Jacques Girardin adheres to traditional  Burgundian techniques, approaching his vines parcel by parcel  for green harvesting, leaf trimming and manual harvest for maximum ripeness. The grapes undergo three triages, first at the moment of picking, then in the transport bins and finally a very detailed triage by vibrating table before vinification. After a cold maceration of 3-4 days, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel then put into oak barrels for elevage. Jacques’ wines age in oak for at least twelve months; about 1/3 is new oak. The red wines are supple and fruity, characterized by aromas of blackberry, cassis and spice, and drink well when young. The general style is slightly rustic with luscious,
lingering fruit and a classic Burgundian earthiness.
Wonderfully versatile, with casual foods or with roasts, steaks or game.

2012 Côtes du Roussillon-Villages Rouge Les Vignes, Bila-Haut (M. Chapoutier) $14.99              Roussillon,
Renowned Rhône winemaker Michel Chapoutier bought this property in the Roussillon area in 2000: “Bila Haut” referring to an old farm villa built high in the mountain slopes among the vineyards (Bila = Villa in Catalan).  The 75 hectares of land – cultivated using biodynamic farming techniques – are characterized by steep pebbly slopes.  This blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah and old-vine Carignan has a nice combination of exotic aromas, spice and smooth mouthfeel, perfect for late summer and fall. All of the wines that Chapoutier produces have labels with both traditional writing and Braille.
Superb with tuna steaks, roasted meats and charcuterie.

2011 Sauternes, Clos L’Abeilley        Bordeaux $26.99
75% Semillon, 25% Sauvignon Blanc,
Affected by the poirriture noble, aka botrytis cinera.  Sweet at the onset, it presents fine acidity on the finish, so this Sauternes comes across as refreshing rather than weighty.  Notes of apricot, ornage peel and honeysuckle lead to a surprisingly dry-ish finish.  Great balance! With any grilled or roasted foods!
