YALUMBA

Australia's Oldest Family-Owned Winery

Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around".

Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba,
Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.

The Wines!

The Yalumba Y Series of varietal wines express the lively personality and colourful 160-plus-year history of the Hill-Smith family of Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery. These are fresh and flavoursome fruit-driven wine styles of quality and consistency, highlighting the true regional character of South Australia's most renowned viticultural areas and confirming Yalumba's reputation as Australia's finest independent winemaker.

Y Series Viognier $14.99

Yalumba Y Series Viognier is a pale gold with green hues. The aroma offers intense white flowers and honeysuckle, with hints of apricot nectar. The palate is rich and very long and ripe, with citrus and tropical fruit flavours.

Y Series Chardonnay $ 14.99

Full-bodied and fruity and plentiful in pineapple, melon and grapefruit flavours with a trickle of honey. A crisp citrus acidity to finish.

"Patchwork" Barossa Shiraz $ 21.99

This wine opens with lush and juicy dark cherry, licorice spice and wild flower notes that lead into a brambly herbal savour with smoky earth tones. On the palate a satin textured dark mulberry and plum fruit appears with a succulent jazzy acidity lifting the gravelly fruit. A ferrous minerality runs through the palate leaving it savoury and moorish.

"Menzie's Cigar" Cabernet Sauvignon $25.99
Since its inaugural vintage in 1987, The Menzies, named after Sir Robert Menzies, politician and red wine enthusiast, has continued to grow in stature and quality. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used for The Menzies are estate grown at Yalumba's Coonawarra vineyard, an exceptional site in the heart of Coonawarra's legendary terra rossa strip.
"The Menzies" is classic Coonawarra, and is characterised by cassis and chocolate flavours across the nose and palate. Two years maturation in French Oak hogsheads has enhanced the soft and velvety tannin palate. This is a definitive premium Cabernet Sauvignon that will reward mid to long term cellaring.

Antique Tawny Port $22.99

This outstanding old dessert wine is deep tawny in colour, with an aroma featuring wood aged rancio, elegant brandy spirit and hints of dried fruits and spices. The palate has a firm rich texture, with chocolate and caramel flavours and a persistent aftertaste of nuts and rancio characters. The fine spirit characters provide a firm balance to the middle palate and excellent drying finish.
