Established in 1845, the Cantina Vincenzo Ippolito is Calabria’s oldest winery. In the 1950s, Don Antonio inherited the business from his father, Don Vincenzo. Nowadays, Don Antonio’s son Don Salvatore manages the winery, along with his children Vincenzo and Gianluca, and their cousins, Elize and Vincenzo. Franco Bernabei is the consulting oenologist.
Located around the town of Cinò Marina, the family carefully tends 100 hectares of vineyards stretching along the gentle hillsides and sunny flats of the Ionic coastline. Cinò Marina is a town of approximately 24,000 people, in the province of Crotone. The surrounding area is particularly undeveloped, with pristine beaches, untouched natural resources and undisturbed historical sites. The winery is divided into three estates: Macuso; Feudo; and Difesa Piana. The entire area is devoted to the indigenous greco bianco and gaglioppo varietals, vinified to represent the real essence of Calabrian culture, cuisine, customs and traditions. The family use a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques and is determined to express its Calabrian heritage by producing wines of the highest quality possible.

Res Dei $16.99
Cirò Bianco D.O.C. (Greco Bianco)
A wine obtained through the vinification of Greco Bianco, an ancient native grape grown near the Ionian Sea. Cirò, legend has it, is the “wine of the gods”. Res Dei is bright straw-yellow with pale green reflections, it comprises an intense, persistent aroma of ripe tropical fruit, pear, peach and white flowers. The taste is fresh and Mediterranean with a charming mineral finish. Res Dei is excellent with raw fish, pasta, grilled fish and white meats.

Liber Pater $16.99
Cirò Rosso Class. Sup. D.O.C. (Gaglioppo)
The authority and elegance of “Gaglioppo”, ancient and native grapes of Calabria, are harmoniously expressed in this aristocratic Cirò. Its character reminds the land’s power of origin, from which they say that Liber Pater, italic god of wine and vineyard, would have acquired the delicate fragrances used to intoxicate the parties in his honor. Liber Pater does a refinement in French oak barrels for 8 months. Liber Pater is ruby red in colour with light purple hues, complex aromas of wild berries, violets, spices and a soft note of oak provided by barrique ageing. It is a full-bodied, rich and velvety wine. Liber Pater is delightful with beef, well-seasoned main dishes and mature cheeses.

I Mori $19.99
Rosso I.G.T. Calabria (Gaglioppo &Cabernet s.)
I Mori is a successful blend between the most ancient native grapes in Calabria, Gaglioppo, and the great Bordeaux grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon. I Mori ages in French oak barrels for 12 months refines the tannins exuberance and enhances the aromatic complexity. I Mori is ruby red in color with violet hues, it boasts a complex aromatic spectrum, ripe red fruits combined with spices, vanilla and balsamic notes. Great structure, concentrated, the taste is full, fresh and well balanced. I Mori is delightful with tasty pasta, roast and mature cheeses.

Calabrise $19.99
Rosso I.G.T. Calabria (Calabrese)
This wine was born after a period of experimentation on “Calabrese”, ancient and native grapes of Southern Calabria. It is witness of our attitude to discover and enhance our regional ampelographic heritage. A gift to our land and its people. The grapes for Calabise are hand harvested in the beginning of October, undergo a long maceration on the skins. After just 7 months in stainless steel tanks, we bottle the wine, preserving intact the original grapes’ fruitiness. Calabrise is dark red in color with bright purple hues, a wine with complex aromas of red fruits, black cherries, plums and black pepper. The taste is fresh, pulpy and solar with very smooth and caressing tannins. Calabrise is ideal with all the tasty and typical Mediterranean dishes.
