Each Friday we try to start your weekend off with a sampling of fine wines and beers that will allow you to relax into your "days off" with a positive note. Always a gathering of friends and neighbors and good conversation.

Calmel & Joseph Villa Blanche Chardonnay 2013 $13.99

Pale golden color, aged 3 mos in oak. Volcanic, clay and limestone soil.  The climate is typically Mediterranean, warm and sunny with low rainfall.  Winters are mild, summers are hot and the usual dry conditions ensure prime fruit. Well-balanced minerality. 

 

J Fritsch Grand Cru Schlossberg 2012 $24.99

100%  Riesling. This wine has a pale yellow color with intense notes of citrus fruit dominated by lime and balanced by an incredible freshness. After a light aeration, the minerality, flinty notes appear. JFritsch is located in Kientzheim in the heart of the Alsace Region.

 

Xavier Cotes du Rhone 2010 $17.99

60% Grenache 20%  Mourvèdre ,15% Syrah and Carignan . The practice of Xavier is to age all the Grenache and Carignan in tank and the Mourvedre, and occasionally Syrah, in small oak. The classic Cotes du Rhone offers wonderful peppery, black currant, black cherry, tobacco leaf, licorice and spice characteristics, abundant flavor.  

 

Chateau Lestrille Bordeaux Superieur 2010 $15.99

94% Merlot 6% Cab Sav.  Very ripe fruit, full-bodied on the palate and well integrated texture. Lestrille wines are fruity, balanced, round and flattering. Aged in stainless steel vats during 1 year. Located in Entre Deux Mers, town of St. Germain du Puch, between Libourne and Bordeaux. They use sustainable wine practices.

 

 

Xavier Vacqueyras 2010 $29.99

50% Syrah 30% Grenache 10% Mourvedre and Cinsault.  Purple and ruby notes. Fine and silky nose with subtle notes of raspberry, liquorice and vanilla. Great structure, flexible and round tannins, pleasant smooth, long finish.  Vacqueyras is located between Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise, southern Rhone.
