The Wines!!

Shane Wine Cellars 2014 Rose’, Ma Fille, Sonoma County, $21.99

200 cases produced

Shane Finley – formerly of Kosta Browne, Copain, and currently the main guy at Lynmar Estates is expressing his creativity in his own wine project – Shane Cellars.

“The core of my Rosé has always been Syrah. This year’s rendition is no different. The 2014 Ma Fille Rosé is composed primarily from the saignée of Syrah (ninety percent) with a touch of Grenache (ten percent). Ten percent of the fermentation was in neutral oak barrels and ninety percent in stainless steel barrels. The oak barrels provide definition while the stainless steel barrels harness brightness and focus. The Ma Fille Rosé was taken off its primary lees at dryness and sulfured early to block malolactic fermentation. It was bottled after three months in barrel and light filtration.

In the glass, the Ma Fille has a vibrant salmon pink color. The fresh aromatics of pink grapefruit, light strawberry, and saltwater taffy spring forth. Bright acidity carries the mid-palate and focuses pomegranate and watermelon accents. The wine is energetic and finishes with hints of rose petals, star anise, and sour cherry.”

Small Guy Chardonnay & Feteasca Alba by Bostavan Winery, Moldova $11.99

Never heard of a wine from Moldova? Nonetheless, we ve been making it for over 3000 years.

The bottle is a blend between the internationally known Chardonnay varietal and a local to Moldova/Romania region varietal called Feteasca Alba (translates as Girly White!). This comes from the central zone of Moldova, rich limestone soil. On the nose it has ripe fruits – white peach, apricot and pineapple. On the palate it is soft, loaded with melon and peach with a bit of a light tannin presence. Develops into an elegant and complex aftertaste with a smooth texture.

Small Guy Cabernet Sauvignon & Rara Neagra by Bostavan Winery, Moldova $11.99

This wine comes from the south of Moldova where the Danube meets the Black Sea. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and a local to Moldova varietal called Rara Neagra (Rare Black). Cabernet is known for its elegance – soft, fruit driven in style and feathery tannins. Rara Neagra reminds of a Sangiovese fresheness and brings a bright note to this wine. This Cabernet offers easy drinking early but will cellar with confidence. Expect cassis, violets, crushed herbs and a long, soft finish with enough concentration and texture to make the wine feel more serious.

Lazy River Pinot Noir 2010, Yamhill Carlton, Oregon $27.99

Lazy River Vineyard is 40 acres of grapes planted on the steep south slope of Mt. Richmond just west of Yamhill, Oregon. The Lumpkin family who owns the vineyard sells fruit to recognized producers such as: Andrew Rich, Hamacher, Panther Creek and Ponzi.

Bright fruit, particularly cherry and raspberry, is offset by refreshing acidity and a solid tannic structure. The 2010 is very long, beginning with bursts of early fruit and evolving to tea leaf and just a hint, a wink, a nod towards deeper notes which will develop over time. This pinot is elegant, and ready to drink now, but will come into its own over the next 3-5 years as the minerality and complexity of the vineyard assert themselves. This promises to become one of our most complex and intriguing wines.

DOUBLE GOLD at the Oregon Wine Awards this year!

Proemio Malbec Reserve, Mendoza, Argentina $19.99

PROEMIO in old Spanish means Prologue; ‘this is our first page, the kick start of our history’.

Deep purple, intense wine, with aromas of distinctive personality and varietal typicity, notably blackberries, and the floral scents of violets and vanilla. A sweet start of mouth, followed by an ample and intense feel in the mid palate, with a silky and rounded tannin texture. It stands out for its fruity character and the crispiness of its well-balanced acidity. A long and lingering finish, with the presence of sweet and fresh wooden flavors. The body of this wine makes it an ideal match for semi-hard cheeses, or grilled or barbecued red meat, or pastas.

Highly recommended: decant for 20 to 30 minutes before drinking.
