The family-run winery Steininger is situated in the wine growing village of Langenlois in the Kamptal Valley. They cultivate 25 hectares. Lower Austria is well-known for the Grüner Veltliner and this is also the strength of the winery. Grüner Veltliner represents over 50 % of their production. Grüner Veltliner can be found in different styles, from a light summer wine to powerful and voluminous full bodied wines as well as dessertwines.

The Steininger winery is also well known for their delicious sparkling wines which are produced according to the traditional bottle fermenting method. Excellent base wines and vigilant second fermentation are the keys to obtaining great sparkling wines. All of the single vintage sparkling wines, .... the Grüner Veltliner, the Riesling, the Sauvignon Blanc or the Zweigelt, involves its own personality.

Martin Mittelbach, Tegernseerhof Winery

In the year 1002, German King Henry II gave some acres of land in the village of Loiben as a donation to the Bavarian monastery of Tegernsee. Today’s manor from the 12th century was used in former times as a place for administration and storage by the Abbey of Tegernsee. In 1803 it became private property and has been possessed for five generations by our family.

The “Weingut Tegernseerhof” is a family enterprise with approximately 24 hectares of vineyards in the best crus (called “Rieden” in Austrian) of the Wachau such as Loibenberg, Kaiserberg, Kräutles, Superin, Kellerberg, Steinertal or in Krems such as Wolfsgraben, Sandgrube and Weinzierlberg.

Soil maintenance and plant protection is very carefully done. Green cover protects the earth against drainage and erosion. Permanent mowing of the weeds provides enough humus for the vines. Moderate pruning and thinning out the grapes in years of unfavourable weather conditions, guarantees healthy and ripe grapes in good quality.

The Mittelbach family mainly produce white wines: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and a small volume of Chardonnay. The red varieties are: Blauer Zweigelt and Blauburger.

Michael Hoeffkin, Hillinger Winery

The Hillinger family has managed vineyards for generations in Jois in Burgenland. In 1990 Leo Hillinger - after a long apprenticeship and many years of travel in Germany and California - took over the wine estate and began with structural reforms, which were to make the winery a top wine-growing enterprise in the Neusiedl Lake region within a few years. Despite restructuring, investment in cellar technology and the integration of a completely new design, Hillinger remained true to the original values and qualities of viticulture.

Hillinger‘s predominate aim is to achieve quality viticulture. The predominant aim is to achieve a level of quality through integrated biological and biotechnical viticulture, which will find international acknowledgment. His efforts to raise the quality of the wine showed rapid success and was confirmed with international distinctions: Gold Medal for Design and Label in New York, 1993; Gold Medal for an Eiswein in Verona, 1993 and various awards in the Guide Gault Millau, Falstaff and A la Carte. His 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon was highly successful at the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. Today he is considered one of the top names in Austria.

Klaus Wittauer, representing Anton Bauer Winery

The Anton Bauer family winery is in its fourth generation. Since 1992, Anton Bauer has been responsible for managing the winery. He continues to make the traditional white wines (Gruner Veltliner and Riesling) in the Donauland region (Grüner Veltliner and Riesling), but has proven that this area can also produce excellent red wines.

Along the Danube River lie the hills of the Wagram. Its south-facing slopes with terraced vineyards, loess soil, and exceptional microclimate are responsible for producing high quality grapes. Ecological cultivation, bio-fertilization and yield reduction are necessary to guarantee the best possible harvest, and modern cellar techniques are used to ensure that this high quality ends up in the bottle.

Anton Bauer is not just following international trends. His wines are true to the terroir. These wines reflect the soil, the climate, the grape variety and the Anton Bauer touch.
