CLEAN, SLATE-LIKE MINERALITY. EXCEPTIONAL ALONE OR PAIRING WITH ASIAN FOODS, SALADS AND PASTAS.

Felino Chardonnay $21.99

Pale gold, with chlorophyll green reflections. The nose is clean and mineral, with notes of lemon
blossom and white peaches. The entry is round, with fresh pear and melon layers over creamy lemon

—The Story —

London, September 18, 2009 - Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena walked back from the Argentine Embassy in London where Nicolas Catena had just received the Decanter Man of the Year Award among a group of dear friends from around the world.  The Thames River was covered with mist as Adrianna began to tell Alejandro about the importance of the Thames Valley on royal power in Medieval England.

Adrianna is a historian finishing her Ph.D. in Medieval History at Oxford University; Alejandro, a soils engineer, has been chief winemaker at Catena Zapata for the last 13 years.  They share a mutual fascination with the writers Dostoyevsky and Cortazar, a passion for the Hellenic Philosophers, a love for music and photography, and a deep, obsessive dedication to their young families - Adrianna's son Antonio and Alejandro's daughter Guiliana are exactly the same age.

On that walk, Alejandro and Adrianna decided to make a wine together, a wine that would represent their deep respect for history and tradition, and their complete irreverence towards the status quo.

El Enemigo Bonarda $27.99

El Enemigo Malbec $27.99

"Malbec is a wine to drink when you are thirsty, in quantity with friends," says Alejandro.  El Enemigo Malbec is made to be drank this way, not so heavy but with high acidity.  "It's got to be able to stand up to the roasted pig and to the unquenchable thirst of my neighbors in the Republic of Chachingo," says Alejandro smiling.

El Enemigo Cabernet Franc $27.99

The grapes are sourced from Gualtallary, limestone soils, round rocks and extreme high altitude - ideal for making a wine of elegance and ageability.

The winemaking is traditional Mendoza style. Alejandro brought old 100 year old Alsatian foudres (barrels) from Italy and had them re-toasted and reassembled in Mendoza. The gentleness of this wood, brings out the true character of cool climate cabernet franc.
