"Blackberries with hints of spices and walnuts on the nose, follow through to a full body, with round tannins and a juicy finish. Intense and rich. Drink now or hold."

90 Points! The Wine Enthusiast

"This opens with aromas of pressed violets, rose petals and spice. The savory palate delivers a core of black cherry accented with nutmeg, hints of cinnamon and a licorice note. Pair this with rich pastas, semi-aged cheeses or grilled red meats."

Our Thoughts...............

The nose opens with dark wild berries and cherry, hints of floral notes of lilac and cocoa powder. The spicy component emerges with nuances of clove and slightly green peppercorn. Tannin texture is tight but not sharp, which is also an expression of the uniqueness of the soils of Castelgreve. The finish returns to the fruity notes already identified on the nose with a touch of violets.

History of Castelli di Grevepesa…..

Castelli del Grevepesa, a Wine Co-operative, was established in 1965 by a small group of eighteen winegrowers in Tuscany on the initiative of Mr. Gualtiero Armando Nunzi.

Their intention was to bring together a group of people from different areas of the Chianti Classico region whose common purpose was to preserve the centuries old traditions of the Tuscan viticulture. Since its foundation Castelli del Grevepesa has concentrated on producing high quality wines by carefully selecting the grapes and by complying with the strict regulations of the Law and the Consorzio "Gallo Nero"  (Black Rooster).

The Production...

During the vegetative period and the harvest, our Agronomist team scrupulously follow the members' vineyards checking the status of these, in accordance with the weather conditions .

After the Members transfer their total yield to the Winery Castelli del Grevepesa, the grapes are controlled in the Co-operative's own laboratory  from their arrival, up to the bottling phase. These controls are carried out by the cellar men under the direction of the oenologist, Stefano Mosele, who together with some other Oenologists, have the important task to oversee the whole vinification process. They have to pay attention to the particular types of grapes, their varieties and their characteristics and especially to the alcoholic fermentation, the racking, the control of malo-lactic fermentation and the following decanting, refinement and aging phase in casks and barrique (French barrels). All operations that are carried out, from the vineyards, up to bottling process, takes place under the supervision of the General Manager, the agronomist and oenologist Ugo Pagliai.
