The History

In the last few years, Errazuriz has been recognized as perhaps the single top quality producer of Chilean wines.  Its wines were either the top-rated or shared the top rating in the last major Chilean reviews from the Wine Spectator, the Wine Advocate, and Tanzer.

As an estate winery, Viña Errazuriz strives to produce the finest wines by controlling every stage of the winemaking process, from grape growing in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curico valleys, to winemaking with the most natural techniques. An emphasis is placed on the delicate handling of the wines, with the aim of producing wines with elegance and complexity. It is this dynamism and passion for wine that has made Errazuriz such an internationally respected producer of quality wines.

Don Maximiano Errazuriz founded Viña Errazuriz in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, 65 miles north of the capital, Santiago. Recognizing that this valley, with its hot, dry summers and cool Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, the tradition of quality lives on with Don Maximiano’s descendant, Eduardo Chadwick. Eduardo is the fifth generation of his family to lead this exceptional estate, and his work has been colossal, bringing Errazuriz into a new era where it is acknowledged as a producer of world-class wines, and opened eyes around the globe as to Chile's incredible and diverse sites.

The Wines!!

Sauvignon Blanc $17.99

Pale yellow in color, the Sauvignon Blanc offers tremendous aromatic intensity. It's dominated by citrusy lime and grapefruit flavors, with a subtle side note of green chili pepper. Fresh, mineral and juicy on the palate, with a long finish and refreshing acidity.

Pinot Noir $16.99
An intense ruby red color, the Max Reserva Pinot Noir offers sweet aromas that recall rosehip, cherries and pomegranate, along with notes of wet earth and tobacco. A smooth Pinot Noir with refreshing acidity, underpinned by subtle spicy, smoky flavors.
"A bright and fruity red with dried berry, cherry and hints of balsamic character. Full body, pretty and savory finish. Delicious. Drink now."

90 Points James Suckling

Carmenere $17.99

Inky purple. Pungent black and blue fruits on the powerfully scented, smoke-tinged nose. Broad, sweet and fleshy, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors and a musky licorice nuance. A peppery note adds lift and bite to the youthfully tannic finish, which lingers with very good smoky persistence. I'll bet that I'd have called this a Syrah in a blind tasting."

Cabernet Sauvignon $20.99

"Opaque ruby. Spicy cherry and blackcurrant scents are complicated by suggestions of menthol, mint and fresh tobacco. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors that deepen with air while maintaining vivacity. Silky tannins frame the finish, which hangs on with very good, gently smoky tenacity."

Cabernet Sauvignon Don Maximiano $92.99

"Intense aromas of flowers, black currants and orange peel. Full-bodied, dense and tight. Yet there's a brooding seriousness to this red. Leave for at least three or four year in bottle. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 10% malbec, 6% carmenere and 5% petit verdot."
94 Points James Suckling

"The 2013 Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve, sourced from a cool vintage, is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 6% Carménère and 5% Petit Verdot; it fermented in small stainless steel vats and matured in French oak barrels (65% new) for 22 moths. It has a very classical nose, a Bordeaux blend with aromas of blackberries, faint balsamic notes, cedar wood, graphite, cigar box, cracked peppercorns and tobacco leaves. It has a lot less new oak than the vintages of yesteryear. The palate is medium to full-bodied with the telltale Cabernet tannins, juicy fruit, and tension keeping the freshness balancing the sweet fruit. One of the finest versions of Don Maximiano."
