Spann Vineyards

Our experience with the wines of great producers around the world has been invaluable. We take the best ideas and techniques we’ve learned from European and California winemakers and apply them to our wines.

We strive to create food-friendly, unique wines that are memorable yet blend seamlessly into the occasion. Memorable in their purity, authenticity, distinctiveness, and enjoyment, seamless in how they integrate into the setting, whether it be with friends on the patio or accompanying a formal dinner. Whatever the time or place, Spann Vineyards will linger pleasurably on your palate and in your memory.

 Peter Spann

While attending college in New Orleans in the early 1970s I took a job as a waiter in a French restaurant and became infatuated with classic French wines and food.  My wines of preference were those from Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley.  I pursued a career in the restaurant industry and served as manager and wine buyer for several restaurants before realizing that I belonged solely in the wine business.  I ventured into wine retail, then into wholesale distribution and then started a wine marketing and sales company.  These pursuits took me to my favorite wine regions of Europe to learn what the best properties did to make their wines special.  These also led me to California during the wine renaissance of the late 1970s to meet the new small, artisan producers.  After working crush at two different wineries I decided I wanted my own small winery someday to make unique wines to add to the wine world.  In 2000 I finally moved to northern California to take a position with a wine importing company and the temptation was too great.  We bought our vineyard in Glen Ellen and Spann Vineyards was born.

The Wines!!

Yin-Yang, Chardonnay-Viognier Blend 20.99
 60% Chardonnay & 40% Viognier
Viognier has voluptuous aromas of dried apricots and peaches. We blend in Chardonnay to create a crisp, well-balanced, food-friendly, eminently refreshing wine that tastes like springtime in a glass. This blend has consistently won Gold Medals at competitions around the country. Only 560 cases produced.

Bety's Bachacher Lot 11 $17.99

40% Syrah, 32% Zinfandel, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Barbera.

Named after our mountainside vineyard, this was originally made as a special treat for our friends and family members who helped us during harvest. When word got out how great this tasted at the end of a hard days' work we were inundated with requests for it so we had to make it one of our regular offerings. This serious but fun-loving, drink-me-now house wine is great by itself and also with barbeque, pizza or other richly flavored foods.

Mo Zin. Zinfandel/Mourvedre/Syrah Blend $20.99

 Zinfandel 65%, Mourvedre 13%, Syrah 12%,Petite Sirah 6% & Cinsault 4%

This is a throwback to the way Zinfandel was originally made 100 years ago, as a field blend, which creates complex aromas and flavors as well as moderate alcohol (14.5%) for food-friendliness.  We recommend this with anything grilled, from salmon and ahi tuna to lamb, pork tenderloin, chicken and beef.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Mayacamas $30.99

Cabernet Sauvignon 79%, Cabernet Franc 14%, Petite Verdot 7%

This comes from our estate vineyard at 1700 feet of elevation in the Mayacamas Mountains of the Sonoma Valley and grapes purchased from several neighbors. Aged in newer and older French oak barrels, this wine has a marvelous red cherry aroma, Wonderful richness, balance and a long elegant finish. Only 344 cases produced.
