Dear {FirstName}

Giulia Negri
Barolo

                        2010
Piemonte

 “This Barolo shows beautiful intensity and an inky dark appearance. The aromas are soft and yielding with sweet tones of wild berry and exotic spice woven between leather, tobacco and licorice. Soft and rich on entry with a clean and persistent finish."

As many of you know, Nebbiolo is one of my favorites. While I sample frequently, my expectations are always high and my tendency to be impressed is very low. This Barolo, by one of the very few female winemakers in the Piedmont, caused an immediate and very positive reaction.

Rich and powerful with great complexity, it was nonetheless very velvety and mouth filling at the same time. The aroma lingers in your mind and reinforces the flavors of dark plum and anise that are enhanced with a spicy cinnamon sugar element. A perfect complement to a roasted Veal Chop, crisp polenta and arugula salad!!

Simply, This is the best Barolo I've tasted in nearly 10 years! This wine should be in every wine cabinet whether for special occasions or when you would like to treat yourself.

Giulia's Thoughts on this wine.....

The strength and the velvet. The wine which expresses the equilibrium between the power of Brunate - a land which reaches an early stage of maturity; rich in mineral salts, which enhance the flavour diversification - and the finesse of Serradenari; late, on the other hand, in reaching its maturity and unique in its mineral properties. The best will be delivered in a longer period (15-25 years). Compelling with its ruby red colour stretching towards the orange; the aroma is very rich, spacing from fresh ripe plums, towards spices and finally reaching the notes of minerals and flowers, such as violets and roses. The taste is fresh, intense, lengthy and full-bodied, with rich and smooth tannins.

Barologirl

Tradition is everything in this land. I could have banked on the name Barolo and on the history of my family, which has been producing wine at Serradenari for the past 150 years. But life shouldn't be a big yawn. I started my adventure a few years ago: I wanted to make wine my way. I adored my "garagiste" friends and their heretical, dogma-free wines: a handful of amazing bottles produced by forward-looking artisan winemakers. When my family made it possible for me to cultivate grapes and create a small cellar, I bet on Barolo, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

I planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on very special terrain, near a forest known for its truffles, along with cherished Burgundy clones. The Barolo, on the other hand, I let grow laboriously on warmer, sandier terrain. I produce Barolo because I believe it will be the work of art of the future – a mix of ancient polish and modern harmony; a flagship in the winemaking world from America to Asia.

And now, I have been noticed and my work has been acknowledged with awards and prizes. But there is no point in becoming bigheaded: This is a challenge that renews itself with every single vintage. The biggest mistake would be to think that going forward, it's going to be all downhill. Nonetheless, now that the Baroloboys have grown up, time may have come for us, the Barologirls.
