90+ Cellars

"Lot 66"

Riesling

Mosel, Germany 2014

This Tangy and Crisp Riesling is the perfect summer fare wine, nicely Refreshing!

So this is the first Riesling we have ever offered on Open Bottle Thursday, mostly because we haven’t found one til now that hit all the key points of superior quality, pedigree and of course price!

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

The alcohol is refreshingly low, yet this is no wimpy wine: it's packed with flavor. A pretty nose of apricots and pear, with a delicious palate showing crisp apple, lemon/lime, pineapple and a touch of honey, and subtle minerality. Very harmonious, off-dry mouthfeel and a velvety-smooth apricot/lemon with a clean finish.

Our Regular Price $13.99

Special Sale Price Only

$9.75 a bottle

 $51.00 for six!!

Riesling the Wine of Medieval Times………

Hieronymus Bock mentioned Riesling in his delightful graphic book Herbal written in 1546. By this time Riesling had already been mentioned in various estate record books for nearly 100 years under the name Rießlingen. Ampelography research points to the Rhine River region in Germany/Alsace as the birthplace of Riesling. The grape is a natural derivative of Gouais Blanc, an esoteric French grape that is grandmother to many of today’s most well-known wines including Chardonnay, Riesling, Petit Verdot, Chenin Blanc and Muscadelle.

The best Rieslings grow along the Mosel River in Germany on steep south-facing hills. While most people think of Riesling’s sweetness, experts pick out a distinct flavor of slate rocks which are the type of soil (if you can call it that) where Mosel Riesling grows.

A bit about 90+ Cellars………

90+ Cellars was created because we like drinking great wine anytime we want.  We wanted an everyday “go to” wine that tasted like one usually reserved for special occasions, a delicious wine that we could open any night of the week or whenever friends arrived.  Unfortunately, that wine didn’t exist or just took too much time to find.

So, in the spring of 2009, armed with a copy of the latest Wine Spectator, Kevin called and emailed wineries with a history of high ratings and asked if they had wine for sale. Some told him to get lost, others simply ignored him, but in the end, he found a handful of willing wineries. The plan was this: They put the 90+ Cellars label on their wine, and we sell it for less.

You may recall that the economy wasn’t in the best shape in 2009. Demand for wines priced more than $20 a bottle plummeted and inventories were piling up. Rather than discount their wine and erode the value of their brand, wineries were willing to part with it for a reduced price.

That summer 90+ Cellars was born. Since then, it’s been our goal to seek out, bottle and deliver fine wine that costs you less money.  The landscape has changed, but our mission has not. We partner with highly respected wineries around the globe to provide you with wine that will impress your friends and keep more dollars in your pocket.

Saturday night taste. Tuesday night price.
