In her book, *In His Own Words: Stories from the Extraordinary Life of Reston'??s Founder, Robert E. Simon, Jr*, Reston native Kristina Alcorn draws an intimate and entertaining portrait of the man many knew only from a distance. The book highlights Simonâ??s humor, adventurous spirit, and dogged
determination not to mention his considerable gifts as a storyteller. It is illustrated with over 100 photographs and artifacts from Simon'??s private collection, the archives of Carnegie Hall, and the Reston Historic Trust.

Alcorn spent two years interviewing Simon in the late 1990s to record his life stories. Motherhood and career shelved the project for a while, but in early 2015 she to devoted herself full-time to completing this book, her first. ??Not long before he died, Bob asked me if I was going to finish this
thing. I assured him I would,â? Alcorn said. ??And with an absolutely overwhelming amount of support from this community that loved Bob.
