The Wine Club - Bordeaux, Alexander Counilh

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Time: 07:00pm - 08:30pm

Type: Class

Location: The Wine Cabinet

Event Free

Once a month we gather together to explore, in a very interactive way, a small slice of the fascinating world of wine.
While there is no charge for this limited seating, we hope that you will enjoy the wines sufficiently to wish to have them in your wine cabinet!

More importantly, we hope that this short experience with very good wine will make you a lifelong wine lover and a loyal patron of

The Wine Cabinet!

We begin promptly at 7:00pm.

We begin a new approach to education this year. We will be focusing more sharply on the upper end wines and utilizing winemakers, winery reps and importers to speak knowledgeably about them. We will  incorporate more complete food offerings to complement the wines. All of this is more expensive, but we have heard your request that we take this direction and we’re trying to respond appropriately. Please keep us informed of how you like what we’re doing. This is for you!

The classes will be charged accordingly this year (September is $25/person - $40/couple), fees will be collected when you reserve your seat and you will be required to cancel the Saturday before the class in order to receive a gift certificate for your payment.

The Wines!!

65 % Sauvignon, 35 % Sémillon
The white wine from Villa Bel-Air reveals outstanding aromatic finesse and a pleasant freshness. The nose is floral (magnolia), with distinct aromas of citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and exotic fruits (mango, pineapple). The attack is soft and round followed by an indulgent, buttery finish offering oak, brioche and vanilla. Barrel-aged for one year .

GONET-MEDEVILLE CRU MONPLAISIR BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR 2014 and 2011

75% merlot, 20% cabernet-sauvignon, 5% cabernet-franc. Round, supple and concentrated, offering a mouthful of flavors; dark fruits, soft tannins and great chocolate notes! Excellent with roasted meats or poultry in red sauce and Pasta or Risotto with seafood.

CHATEAU GONTEY ST. EMILION GRAND CRU 2010

FOR THE 2010 VINTAGE - 3 STARS-The Washington Post
This heady merlot, with 20 percent cabernet franc, is available primarily in restaurants, but it’s also worth finding for a special dinner at home or even for your cellar. It is rich, dark and brooding at first, but after an hour or so it comes alive with intense cherry fruit. (I suggest decanting). It’s modern in style; the extract and soft tannins grab your palate and hold on.  14 % ABV.

CHATEAU SIRAN MARGAUX 2011

48% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc
Produced from soils made up of a deep layer of gravel, the wines of Siran are typical of the great Margaux growths. Both powerful and delicate, they express the perfect balance between tannin, fruit and acidity. They are long-ageing wines, which over time develop sweetness on the palate, giving a characteristic silky and velvety mouth-feel. Made from a subtle blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, Château Siran generally expresses finesse, femininity and silkiness rather than the raw power and virility of some Médoc wines. The high percentage of Petit Verdot, which can be as much as 15% of the final blend in some years, brings a spicy finish which enhances the unique character of the wines of Château Siran. Château Siran displays charm when young but is also a wine of very long ageing potential. Wine enthusiasts particularly appreciate the complexity of its aromas that it develops over time.

DULUC DE BRANAIRE-DUCRU 2008
44% Merlot; 51% Cabernet Sauvignon; 5% Petit Verdot
Beautiful finesse which is a result of a very light extraction. A style very Burgundian which will appeal to those with a refined palette.

PAUILLAC DE LYNCH BAGES 2010

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc
2010, is only the second vintage that Chateau Lynch Bages has produced a third wine: Pauillac de Lynch-Bages. Produced from the Chateau’s younger vines and treated with the same care as the estate’s first and second wines, this wine expresses the best of the historic 2010 vintage. A fresh and elegant wine with notes of red fruit, spice, wood and a silky well-rounded mouthfeel to finish it off. The lighter structure makes this wine an excellent pairing with many dishes and a pleasure to enjoy right away.

CHATEAU LES GRANDES TERRES CADILLAC 2012/13

90% Semillon, 5% Muscadelle, 5% Sauvignon Blanc
Delicate nose of apricot, peach, raisin, honey and fern. Very nice fruit on the palate, with generous soft and exquisite freshness. Sweet wine, very pleasant and refreshing.
