The Vineyards!!

Our Story

Sineann (shuh-NAY-uhn) is a small producer of highly intense wines made from the finest grapes from the finest vineyards in the region. Almost all our wines are single-vineyard designated, with low crop levels to ensure that the best characteristics of the varietal and terroir shine through. Our meticulous approach to winemaking - minimal processing, aging in French oak - helps us preserve the character of each wine we create. The result are wines that both we and our growers take great pride in.

The bottom line is, we strive to make great wine - the only kind of wine that makes it onto our dinner table. We believe that food and drink, lovingly prepared, make for happier and healthier people.

Meet the Winemaker

Peter Rosback got his start in winemaking when he made his first Pinot Noir in 1985. In 1994 he launched Sineann with David O'Reilly. Peter has continued the Sineann tradition and David went on to start Owen Roe.

Now one of the finest wine producers in the Pacific Northwest, Peter is clearly passionate about making wines he loves, and it shows. Though Pinot Noir is still the main attraction, Peter has broadened his portfolio over the years to include stellar Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc wines, to name a few.

Well known for sourcing fruit from only the best vineyards, Peter carefully crafts wines from vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest, from Washington's Horse Heaven Hills to the Willamette Valley. In the spring, Peter travels to New Zealand to make Sauvignon Blanc (Awatere Valley) and Pinot Noir (Central Otago).

The Wines!!

Sauvignon Blanc $19.99
The particular qualities of the 2014 Sineann Marlborough SB that captivates are the sheer intensity of fruit on the palate, the mid-palate creaminess and the richness of the finish - along with the beautiful natural acidity.
We attribute the remarkable fruit and lengthy finish to the special care the fruit receives. This is a rare, hand-harvested New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, cluster-sorted. It makes a difference! The 2014 Sineann Sauvignon Blanc is one of the best we’ve made and is a great example of how special Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc can be.

Pinot Gris Wy'east $24.99
The grapes for Sineann's 2013 Wy’east Pinot Gris come from a magical vineyard in the Hood River Valley. We get our best Pinot Gris from this vineyard and starting in 2002, a bit of Pinot Noir. The Hood River Valley is a famous fruit growing region about an hour east of Portland.  Renowned for its wonderful apples, pears and cherries, we feel it will become equally well known for its vineyards.

Pinot Noir Oregon $34.99
The grapes for this Pinot Noir came off four precious vineyards: Yates Conwill, Wy’east, Zenith and Russell-Grooters. Yes, some very nice sources! Two of these are long term favorite vineyards of ours. The other two are newer: Russell-Grooters is in the Yamhill-Carlton district, well-situated, well-managed; Zenith is in the Eola-Amity Hills. We chose to blend strengths together and offer a less expensive, high quality wine. The wine is very dark, aromatic and has great natural acidity. At this stage of development, most of its character is in a long, long finish - a good sign for the future of the wine!

Abondante Red $29.99
With this wine we honor a few things. Abondante is Italian for “generous”, generosity being something we try to build into all our wines. It also honors our “A” team of workers, wine lovers all, who help make this stuff happen in the winery. Finally, it honors our good friend, Dante, man of many talents, who is our chef through the harvest season and keeps us very well fed.

The wine is a blend of grapes grown in the Columbia Valley. There is Merlot from the Hillside Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Phinny Hill Vineyard, some Petit Verdot and Zinfandel from a couple of Lonnie Wright’s vineyards. All the fruit from the Columbia Valley was very good in 2013. And abundant. They say a rising tide lifts all boats and that is certainly true of the 2013 Abondante. It comprises some very good sources and is one of the best values we put out.

Cabernet Sauvignon $34.99
Our 2013 Columbia Valley Cabernet is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, and only Cabernet Sauvignon, from a couple very special vineyards including the famed Champoux Vineyards and a vineyard right across the road from Champoux - Phinny Hill Vineyard. We easily could have vineyard-designated any of the components of this Cabernet. We chose instead to blend it into this gorgeous wine. You will rarely experience a wine this good that costs this little.

Old Vine Zinfandel $44.99

The grapes for this Zinfandel come from the Pines Vineyard in the Columbia Valley, a few miles south of The Dalles, Oregon. The vineyard is terraced. Tractors in the early 1900's weren't able to climb such steep slopes. Soils are sparse - the area has one of the greatest day and night temperature differences in the country, 50 degree swings are not uncommon. The very warm days ripen the Zinfandel beautifully and the cool nights retain balanced acidity.

Planted around the turn of the century by an immigrant Italian stonemason, the Pines Vineyard was neglected for many years until vineyard manager Lonnie Wright started resurrecting the vines in the early '80's.

This is a very special vineyard for us. Year in and year out it produces one of the most interesting wines we make. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most interesting wines we can get our hands on.

We work to keep it so. In 2014 we had a very small crop on the old vineyard. We treat it very gently in the winery, delicately destemming the fruit, gravity racking, aging in the best barrels we have.

The 2014 is another beautiful Old Vine Zin - in a long string of very good ones. It is very dark, highly aromatic, with a huge, mouthfilling texture and a long, long finish. If you think old vines don’t matter, you’re wrong and this wine should help convince you.

Every year the wine has perfect acid balance (without adjustment) achieving two goals: great match with food, and a long life. The '94 we made still hasn't peaked.

This is very special wine from a very special vineyard.
