The Wines of Owen Roe!

History

At Owen Roe, we are committed to practicing the highest standards of winemaking. Since our first vintage in 1999, our goal has been simple; to produce beautiful wines from superior sites in the Pacific Northwest. A place where the fruit ripens slowly and fully, resulting in excellent acidity and balance. All of our grapes are hand harvested, handled with minimal processing, small-lot fermented and aged in French oak barrels.

In these images, winery owners (from left to right: Julie and Ben Wolff, David and Angelica O'Reilly) are shown breaking ground in Union Gap for our 2013 winery project. Completion of the first phase was September 2013, allowing our crew to prepare for blending and Spring bottling. Our new winery is now home to our Washington wine production and will become a destination winery for visitors to the Yakima Valley, through our future events and tasting room.

Corvidae is the Latin name for the family of birds that includes the Crow, Raven, Jay and Magpie. These "dark" birds are everywhere in the vineyards of Eastern Washington. Their reputation as crafty, adaptable and somewhat dubious characters is a fitting icon for our suspiciously terrific value wines from the region. The geology and climate here yields rich, complex fruit with luscious fragrance and acidity.

So be wise like the crow and enjoy these great wines from the Pacific Northwest!.

Wines

Hedges C.M.S. Sauvignon Blanc $14.99
Sauvignon Blanc, dominant, with small amounts of Chardonnay and Marsanne.

A blended white with Sauvignon Blanc dominating over 75% of the wine, this was one of the original malic-acid friendly white wines released from Washington State. Rounding out the blend is a touch of chardonnay accompanied by just a pinch of Marsanne. Beautifully structured with wonderful Sauvignon Blanc fruit character, the mouth feel has a delicate balance of acid angularity and defined herbal sophistication.

Mirth Chardonnay, Corvidae $18.99
Mirth means happiness and this wine is just that!

The Mirth is quintessential Chardonnay exhibiting bright tropical notes and excellent purity of flavor and balance unencumbered by oak flavor. The wine is fermented and cellared in stainless steel to preserve its freshness and varietal character. Pair this refreshing Chardonnay with a chanterelle herb frittata, lemon roasted chicken, or a mango avocado and smoked salmon salad.

"Ex Umbris" Syrah $29.99
A deep garnet hued Syrah sourced from our own estate vineyards, Outlook and Union Gap, and DuBrul and Red Willow Vineyard, this Yakima Valley Syrah is bursting with lovely dark fruit aromas. Black cherry, boysenberry, blueberry and plum swirl through the glass. Flavors of dried fruits, spice, pepper and layers of pie filling, berry cobbler and cigar box fill the palate. Enjoy now after 1-2 hours decantation or cellar for 6+ months before opening your first bottle. This wine is complex and will age well for many years, so stock up and store away. You will be glad you did!

"The Rook" Merlot, Corvidae $18.99
100% Merlot
The 2013 Rook was made to showcase the world-class Merlot grown in the cooler, higher elevation sites located in the Columbia Valley. The wine was aged in mostly neutral French oak to keep the bright fruit flavors lively.

Showing red and black fruits, sarsaparilla, orange peel, cinnamon and tobacco, this crisply textured red is balanced by fine grained tannins and a rich, pillow soft mid-palate.

"Sharecropper's" Cabernet Sauvignon $ 21.99

Everyone’s favorite go-to weeknight Cab shines in 2015. Bright aromas of blackberry, candied fruit, vanilla and brown sugar leads to a more savory palate of pomegranate, green pepper and oil cured olives. This Cabernet finishes with bright acidity and lingering tannins. We recommend opening this wine now and enjoying it at a young age, however, this will age well for 4-6 years when properly cellared.
