Bodegas Ontanon Reserva 2019

A multi-generational family winery, growing Rioja's classic varieties organically and at high elevation. This Tempranillo celebrates a combination of fresh verve with rich flavors, palate stimulating structure and a lengthy finish. Flavors of dark fruits, balsamic, and wet tobacco move through polished tannins with poise.

Elegant smoky spices and hazelnut chocolate to the fresh plums, dark mushrooms and blackberries. Fine-grained with medium body and a very long, creamy finish. Juicy, well-balanced and energetic despite the obvious oak influence. A blend of 95% tempranillo and 5% graciano. Nice now but will develop well. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Reserva Ontañón is Tempranillo with 5% Graciano from Rioja. Garnet in hue, the nose offers dried plum, herb and menthol aromas. Dry, with fine tannins and a juicy mid-palate, the finish delivers red fruit and a hint of camphor to round out a classic Rioja defined by oak and balance.

Licorice, vanilla and sweet smoke notes on the nose carry through to the palate, accenting plumped cherry and plum compote flavors defined by orange peel acidity and light tannins. A savory push of dried thyme, cigar box and graphite shows on the finish. Tempranillo and Graciano. Drink now through 2030. 4,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.
