Vinous
- v92
Vivid red. Displays spice-accented black raspberry and cherry-cola aromas, along with hints of potpourri, incense and smoky minerals. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, the 2017 offers concentrated red and dark berry preserve, mocha and floral pastille flavors that pick up a smoky nuance on the back half. Nicely concentrated but lively as well, closing on a gently tannic note and with repeating spiciness and strong tenacity. Aged in 30% new oak.

This was held back for release after the winery's single-vineyard selects, perhaps because the wine remains stubbornly mute. It's lightly high toned, with stiff tannins. It puts an herbal face forward, though with ample aeration a strong core of tart cherry emerges, along with citrus highlights.
